 Prayers

Fajr, Maghrib and Isha prayers are held daily at the centre. Friday congregational prayer starts around 1:15 p.m. (may vary during the year). Other than for these prayers the Centre may or may not be open, for more information contact the IAS religious affairs chairperson.

Halaqas

There are 4 regular weekly halaqas (Islamic study circles) held at the centre, for discussions on various Islamic subjects. The schedule is as follows (note: time could vary during the year):

-Men's Halaqa every Friday and Saturday.

-Women's Halaqa every Friday and Saturday.

Check with religious affairs chairperson for more details.

 

Da'wa and Religious Education

In an effort to educate Muslims and introduce Islam to non-Muslims, the religious affairs committee has made an agenda that needs input from our community members. The outline is as follows:

- Strengthening the community religious education and unity by visiting Muslims in the city.

-Visiting non-Muslim institutions, organization and schools to present Islam, to them.

-Visiting psychiatric correctional centres and prisons.

-Inviting non-Muslims (institutions and individuals) to our Centre in an effort to introduce them to Islam and to Muslims.

-Meet with other faith groups to share ideas and help in the understanding of Islam and Islamic principles.

-Using e-mail and the IAS website to forward useful and educational material about Islam.

-Video presentations about Islamic subjects.

-Printing and distributing pamphlets about Islam to Muslims and non-Muslims.

-Inviting scholars to hold seminars at the Centre and at the University to speak on various Islamic subjects (i.e. Miracles of the Quran, Women in Islam, Human Rights, Comparative Religion, etc).

 

Youth

In line with our belief in our youth and in their role in presenting Islam in Canada, the IAS strives to make available functions such as camps (local and national), sports activities, educational seminars, etc. to its youth. For more information contact the IAS youth chairperson.

 

Services

The Islamic Association provides various services to the Muslim community:

-Zakah: The IAS collects and distributes Zakah and Sadaqah locally and otherwise.

-Halal Meat: The IAS provides halal meat and chicken which is sold daily at the centre.

-Kitchen: The Centre has a large kitchen certified by the Health Board that can be used for large functions such as weddings, Eid celebrations, Iftar in Ramadan fundraising and any such gatherings. For more information please contact the social affairs chair person.

-Gym and Special Function Rooms: The Centre has a gym and special function rooms to be used for sport activities, day care, etc. For more information please contact the maintenance chairperson.

-Library: The Centre has a small library containing books, audio and video material; for more information please contact the religious affairs chair person.

The IAS also arranges many occasional activities such as weddings and funerals.

The Muslim Students' Association arranges with the community members a daily communal Iftar for singles during the month of Ramadan. There are several services that are provided by IAS and/or by individuals that will be announced at the appropriate time.
