Nominations for the IAS Board of Directors are now open!
Nominations deadline is FEBRUARY 19, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
The IAS Elections Chair for year 2012 is ready to receive nominations for the Board positions available as noted on the attached Nomination Form. If you want to nominate someone for a position on the Board of Directors, please note the following:
- The nomination must be made using the attached Form (Article IV-B-2)
- The Nominee (the candidate) must be an IAS member in good standing for at least 12 months prior to the elections date, and also be over the age of 18 years (Article III-C-2);
- The Nominee must sign the Form to declare his/her acceptance to stand for elections;
- The Nominator must be an IAS member in good standing and eligible voter, and should sign and date the Form;
- The nomination must be seconded by another IAS member in good standing and eligible voter, and should also sign the form;
- Only one nomination for one position can be made on the Form. If you want to offer nominations for other positions, please use a separate Form for each position;
- The deadline for nominations is Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 2:00 pm (Article IV-B-2);
- Incomplete nomination Forms will be discarded;
- Complete nomination Forms must be submitted to the Elections Chair via email to elections@islamiccenter.sk.ca or handed to him personally, or to the IAS office;
- Once the nomination Form is verified by the Elections Chair (i.e., completeness, eligibility of the nominee and nominators), the Nominator will receive a confirmation that his/her nomination is in effect;
- If you are submitting a hard copy of the Form, it will be ideal to print both pages of the Form on a single paper (two sided).

Renew your IAS membership before January 27th.
The IAS Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) will be held Inshaa Allah on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Please renew your membership for 2012. If you have not been a member for 2011, you must renew your membership (or become a new member) before January 27, 2012 to participate in the upcoming AGM. You can renew your membership (or join as a new member) and pay the dues online at the following link:

For new members, if you are not Canadian citizen, nor a permanent resident of Canada, you have to have been a legal resident in Saskatoon (student Visa, work permit,...etc) for at least 6 months to be eligible for IAS membership. Please refer to the IAS Constitution here!

On January 6, 2012, the Star Phoenix published an opinion article on the Niqab issue. The article was submitted, on behalf of the IAS, by the chair of the Muslim Communications and Outreach Committee (MCOC). Please read and spread the word. IAS-MAC Winter Coat Drive ends successfully!
Alhamdullellah, the IAS - MAC Winter Coat Drive that lasted from Friday till Sunday (Nov 18-20) ended on Sunday afternoon. It was great success! A lot of coats were sorted and packed by the volunteers and made ready to go to the Salvation Army.

IHMC Dinner ..... a success

For the second year (and third in Saskatoon), the Muslim Communications & Outreach Committee (MCOC) of the IAS has celebrated October as the Islamic History Month Canada (IHMC). A dinner was held to mark this celebration. The theme of this year is "Islam & pluralism". A keynote lecture entitled "Islam's contribution to enlightened governance, pluralism, and diversity as a civilization" was delivered by Mr. Michael Hamilton Morgan. The event was a great success, the dinner was well attended with over 130 individuals representing the Canadian society (politicians, academicians, professionals, government officials, educators, media, and others).

The amended IAS constitution has been ratified!
On September 11, 2011, the IAS Special General Body meeting has voted on the new constitution of the IAS with some amendments. The new (amended) constitution can be found here!

The IAS fund raising dinner on June 4, 2011 was successful. The IAS Board of Directors extend its sincere thanks to our generous community members. We still need yoursupport. We are half way through....We still need to raise $100,000 to be able to complete our roof repair.
