Islamic Association of Saskatchewan-Saskatoon The Islamic Association of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon) was founded in 1968 and was first registered with the Federal Government as a Canadian Religious Charitable Organization in 1970. The IAS serves Muslims in the Saskatoon area providing them many services including day-to-day running of the Islamic Centre, holding activities for the Muslim community at large and representing the Muslims locally and nationally. Other than taking care of the Centre, the IAS also runs some properties that are used as a Waqf for the Centre and is responsible of the Muslim Cemetery (in 1976 a part of the Woodlawn Cemetery was reserved for the dead of Muslims). The following are IAS affiliations: -Multi-faith Group -Saskatchewan Organization for Heritage Language (SOHL) -Saskatchewan Intercultural Association -Saskatchewan Forum for "Racialized" Canadian, Inc. -Saskatchewan District Health Board (Spiritual Care Advisory Committee) -Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation (SCIC)The responsibilities of running the IAS are carried out by an executive board. It lies 780 kilometers northwest of Winnipeg, a little over 520 kilometers southeast of Edmonton, and just over 300 kilometers north of the U.S. border.
